Reminder: Switch to Chloramines on September 5,2017

The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County will be changing the current free chlorine residual present in the finished water produced from the George R. Sweeney Plant and the Indian Creek Water Plant back to our normal chloramine residual  on September 5, 2017.

Chloramines is a combination of chlorine and ammonia that is added at the treatment plants to maintain bacteriological quality in our distribution system.  This type of residual maintains better in the warm water temperatures, reduces chlorine odors and tastes and reduces the production of any disinfection byproducts due to the long retention time in the distribution system.

The water supplied by the McKeesport Water Plant will continue to provide a free chlorine residual as it has always done.
